Wagner's Nyjer Seed Wild Bird Food — 5 lb Resealable Bag, High-Oil Small Seed for Finches

Wagner's 5-pound Nyjer Seed is a concentrated, high-energy small-seed blend formulated to attract finches and other small songbirds to tube-style finch feeders.

Carefully processed and packaged, Wagner's Nyjer Seed delivers tiny, oil-rich seeds that appeal to American Goldfinch, House Finch, Purple Finch, Pine Siskin and similar species. Packaged in a resealable bag for freshness, this product is designed for finch-style feeders with small ports and perches so larger birds are discouraged. Nyjer's small seed size and high nutritive value make it a popular choice among backyard birders who want frequent visits from small songbirds without excess mess or sprouting.

Why do finches prefer Nyjer seed?

Finches have slender beaks adapted to extract small, oil-rich seeds like nyjer. The compact seed size is easy for them to handle, and its high fat and protein content supports energetic activity and feather condition during migration and colder weather.

• Specifically favored by American Goldfinch, House Finch, Purple Finch, and Pine Siskin
• High oil content provides concentrated energy
• Small kernel size suits tube-style finch feeders
• Processed to be clean with minimal debris

How does the 5-pound bag make feeding more convenient?

The 5-pound size balances value and manageability for regular backyard feeding. It supplies many feedings while staying easy to store and pour, and the resealable slider helps keep seeds fresh between refills.

• Contains approximately 150,000 seeds per pound for long-lasting supply
• Resealable slider reduces spillage and maintains freshness
• Bag size is easy to handle when refilling feeders
• Less frequent repurchasing versus smaller packages

Will Nyjer seed create a lot of mess or unwanted growth?

Nyjer seed is known for producing minimal waste because birds typically consume the kernels fully. The seed is not treated to germinate in standard backyard conditions, so it generally does not sprout into unwanted seedlings beneath your feeder.

• Creates very little hull debris compared with larger mixed seeds
• Seeds are consumed rather than discarded, reducing ground cleanup
• Low tendency to sprout, so less volunteer growth under feeders
• Cleaner presentation attracts more regular feeder visits

What kind of feeder works best with Wagner's Nyjer?

Nyjer functions best in finch-specific feeders that have small feed ports and narrow perches. These features allow small songbirds easy access while discouraging larger species from monopolizing the food.

• Use tube or mesh-style finch feeders with tiny feeding holes
• Smaller perches favor finches and deter larger birds
• Hang in a visible location to encourage frequent visits
• Keep feeder clean and dry to preserve seed quality
