Wagner's Striped Sunflower Seed Wild Bird Food, 5 lb Bag — Attracts Cardinals & Jays

Wagner's 62028 Striped Sunflower Seed is a 5-pound bag of high-quality striped sunflower seed specially chosen to attract larger backyard songbirds like Cardinals, Jays, and Woodpeckers.

Invite robust, colorful songbirds to your feeders with a seed they prefer. Wagner's striped sunflower seeds have thicker shells and larger kernels, which appeal to birds with strong beaks while naturally discouraging smaller species that struggle with the tougher shells. Packaged in a convenient 5-pound bag and made in the USA, this blend is designed for use in tray, hopper, and platform feeders to help you build a lively backyard bird scene.

Why will larger songbirds choose striped sunflower seed over other mixes?

Striped sunflower seed has a larger kernel and a heavier shell than smaller sunflower or mixed seeds. Birds like Cardinals, Jays, and Grosbeaks can crack these shells easily, giving them a steady, preferred food source while reducing quick pickup by tiny species. This helps attract and sustain visits from the larger-beaked birds you want to see more often.

• Thicker shells favor larger-beaked species
• Larger kernels provide more energy per seed
• Less competition from smaller birds and waste

How should I feed Wagner's striped sunflower seed for best results?

Use tray, hopper, or platform feeders to present the seed in a stable, visible place. These feeder types let larger birds perch and crack shells comfortably. Keep feeders filled and clean to encourage regular visits and reduce spoilage.

• Ideal feeders: tray, hopper, and platform models
• Place feeders where perches and cover are nearby
• Refresh seed regularly and discard damp or clumped portions

What species am I most likely to attract with this seed?

Wagner's striped sunflower seed is formulated to bring in larger songbirds that favor hearty seeds. Expect frequent visits from Cardinals, Blue Jays, Woodpeckers, Titmice, and other birds with strong beaks. Your yard will likely display more energetic feeding behavior and longer visits from each bird.

• Cardinals and Grosbeaks enjoy the larger kernels
• Blue Jays and Woodpeckers actively seek striped sunflower
• Titmice and similar mid-sized songbirds will also visit
