Hand and power tools for the yard: bypass pruners and loppers, spades, forks and hoes, trowels and cultivators, garden carts and wheelbarrows, gloves and kneelers, leaf blowers, hedge trimmers and chainsaws for the fall and spring cleanup that every Canadian yard demands. We favour forged steel, replaceable parts and handles that survive being left out in the rain once.

What to look for: bypass rather than anvil pruners for live wood; a spade with a forged blade and a D-grip you can push with a boot; a cart or wheelbarrow rated for the load you actually move (a metre of mulch is around 400 kg); and cordless tools on a battery platform you already own. Sharpen and oil blades before winter storage; a tool shed or deck box from outdoor storage keeps them out of the snow.
