Happy Wings Finch Blend Bird Food 10lb — Nyjer Thistle & Hulled Sunflower Kernels, High-Oil Energy

Happy Wings 10LB Finch Blend combines high-oil thistle (nyjer) and hulled sunflower kernels in a ready-to-use mix designed to attract a wide variety of colorful finches and small songbirds.

This specially blended 10 lb pack from Happy Wings pairs finely threshed thistle seed with premium sunflower kernels to provide energy-rich food that appeals to finches, siskins, goldfinches, and other small backyard birds. The mix is prepared in a USDA & BRC-GS approved facility under strict quality control and packaged as a non-germinating seed to help keep feeders and gardens tidy. Whether you are setting up a tube feeder, a mesh sock, or scattering beneath a shrub, this blend is formulated to encourage regular visits from active, colorful backyard birds.

What birds will this mix attract most reliably?

Finches are the primary visitors, including American goldfinch, lesser and greater goldfinch varieties, purple finch, and siskins; many small songbirds will also take advantage of the high-oil kernels. The mix’s texture and seed sizes are matched to the feeding habits of cling-and-peck species that favor thistle and sunflower kernels.

• Primary targets: goldfinches, siskins, and other finches
• Also attractive to: chickadees, titmice, and small cardinals
• Best used in tube feeders, mesh sock feeders, or tray feeders
• Hulled kernels reduce waste and mess around feeding stations

How does the mix support birds’ nutrition and energy needs?

This blend combines thistle seed’s small, oil-rich kernels with high-fat sunflower kernels to deliver concentrated calories and protein for active wild birds. The ingredients are chosen to provide the kind of dense energy birds need, especially during migration and breeding seasons when fat and protein are priorities.

• High oil content for quick energy
• Protein from sunflower kernels to support feather growth and activity
• Suitable year-round—especially beneficial in cooler months and during migration
• No fillers—designed to minimize empty calories in the diet

Will these seeds sprout in my garden and create weeds?

No—Happy Wings packages this mix as a non-germinating seed blend, so it will not sprout into unwanted plants around your feeders. That helps maintain a cleaner backyard and reduces the chance of seedlings or volunteer plants growing beneath feeding areas.

• Processed to prevent germination and reduce volunteer growth
• Less cleanup required under feeders and in garden beds
• Reduces attraction of pests that feed on sprouting seeds
• Ideal for urban and suburban yards where tidy landscaping matters

How is quality ensured and what safety standards does it meet?

The mix is produced in facilities that meet USDA and BRC Global Standard (BRC-GS) requirements and follows safety protocols consistent with the Wild Bird Feeding Institute and relevant food-safety frameworks. These measures aim to ensure purity, correct processing, and consistent sizing of seed components.

• Manufactured in USDA & BRC-GS approved facility
• Quality checks on seed cleanliness and size consistency
• Standards aligned with Wild Bird Feeding Institute recommendations
• Meets expectations under Food Safety modernization practices
