Kaytee Essentials Blend Wild Bird Seed Mix, 9.5 lb — No Milo, Black Oil Sunflower for Cardinals & Songbirds

Kaytee Essentials Blend Wild Bird Seed Mix is a 9.5-pound, no-milo seed blend designed to attract a variety of backyard birds with black oil sunflower and familiar grains.

Bring lively bird activity to your yard with a carefully balanced seed mix formulated for everyday feeding. Kaytee Essentials Blend combines ingredients that many common backyard species naturally prefer, offering an approachable, low-mess option for feeders and platform stations. The blend is intended for year-round use to encourage visits from cardinals, chickadees, sparrows, juncos and other songbirds without excess filler.

What is in this blend and why does it matter?

The mix centers on black oil sunflower seed—a high-energy favorite for many species—and includes millet and other familiar grains to provide variety. The absence of milo in the recipe reduces leftover seed and waste, helping keep feeding areas cleaner and more attractive to birds.

• Black oil sunflower: preferred by cardinals, chickadees, and many songbirds
• Millet and small seeds: suitable for ground-feeding species like juncos and sparrows
• No milo: minimizes uneaten seed and feeder mess
• Balanced mix: supports consistent visits across seasons

How do I use Kaytee Essentials Blend at my feeders?

This mix works well in tube feeders, hopper feeders, platform trays, and on the ground. Fill feeders regularly and place them where birds feel safe—near shrubs or a tree line—while keeping feeders visible to you for enjoyment.

• Tube and hopper feeders: pour seed directly for easy access
• Platform trays: spread seed to attract ground-feeding species
• Regular refills: maintain fresh supply and reduce spoilage
• Placement tip: near cover to encourage longer visits

Which birds will I likely see eating this mix?

The blend is tailored to attract a broad range of common backyard birds that prefer black oil sunflower and small seeds. Expect frequent visits from cardinals, chickadees, sparrows, and juncos, with other species joining depending on your region and habitat.

• Cardinals and grosbeaks: drawn to black oil sunflower
• Chickadees and nuthatches: favor small, high-energy seeds
• Sparrows and juncos: consume millet and mixed grains
• Seasonal variation: species mix may change with migration

Will this seed create extra mess or waste in my yard?

Kaytee formulated Essentials Blend without milo to cut down on uneaten seed, which often attracts rodents and creates cleanup. While any seed offering can result in shells and hulls, this mix aims to limit leftover kernels and keep feeding areas tidier with routine maintenance.

• No milo reduces common leftover grains
• Use trays or feeders with catchment to collect hulls
• Frequent checks and spot cleaning minimize buildup
• Consider seed trays to control spillage and seed spread
