Urban Worm Coco Coir Soil Amendment 1.4 lb Brick — pH-Neutral, Low-Salt Water-Retentive Bedding

Urban Worm Coco Coir Soil Amendment and Bedding is a pH-neutral, low-salt coco fiber brick that soaks up to one gallon of water and serves as a sustainable soil conditioner, bedding, or composting substrate.

Made from 100% natural, rinsed coconut fiber, this compact 1.4 lb brick expands into a light, water-retentive medium that improves soil texture, aeration, and moisture holding. Urban Worm's coco coir is repeatedly washed to keep electrical conductivity low (under 1.5 mS/cm) and is a renewable alternative to peat moss for gardeners, vermicomposters, reptile keepers, and eco-conscious landscapers.

How does this coco coir improve garden soil?

Adding rehydrated Urban Worm coco coir loosens heavy soils and boosts moisture retention without compaction. It helps balance drainage and aeration so roots can access water and oxygen more consistently, and its neutral pH makes it easy to mix into potting blends for many plant types.

• Absorbs up to 1 gallon of water per 1.4 lb brick for long-lasting moisture.
• Creates crumbly, workable texture that eases transplanting and root growth.
• Compatible with compost, perlite, and bulk potting mixes for custom blends.

Can I use it as bedding for worms, turtles, or reptiles?

Yes — the coco fiber's neutral chemistry, gentle texture, and high carbon content make it an excellent bedding material. It provides a clean, low-odor environment, helps regulate humidity, and breaks down slowly in vermicompost systems, supplying both structure and carbon to the process.

• Carbon-rich bedding supports healthy worm composting and reduces smells.
• Soft, absorbent mat for reptile and turtle enclosures that holds humidity.
• Low salt content minimizes stress for sensitive species and microbes.

How is this coco coir prepared and what are the salt and pH characteristics?

Urban Worm coco coir bricks are thoroughly rinsed during processing to reduce salts and electrical conductivity, ensuring better results when rehydrated for planting or bedding. The product is pH-neutral, which reduces the need for chemical adjustments and makes it simple to tailor mixes for specific crops or animals.

• Repeated rinsing yields electrical conductivity below 1.5 mS/cm.
• Neutral pH avoids sudden shifts when incorporated into potting mixes.
• Ready to rehydrate with water; no special treatment required.

How do I rehydrate and store the coco coir brick?

To expand a brick, place it in a bucket and add approximately one gallon of water; allow it to absorb and break apart, then fluff with a fork to reach desired texture. Store unused dry bricks in a cool, dry place to keep them lightweight and easy to transport, and keep hydrated material in sealed containers to avoid mold.

• Add about one gallon of water per 1.4 lb brick; adjust for texture.
• Fluff and mix with compost or perlite for tailored drainage and nutrition.
• Dry-brick storage: cool, dry, and out of direct sunlight for longevity.

Who is this for? Urban Worm Coco Coir is ideal for home gardeners building potting mixes, balcony growers seeking lightweight moisture control, vermicomposters needing clean carbon bedding, reptile and turtle owners wanting absorbent enclosures, and anyone replacing peat with a renewable, low-salt alternative. Whether you need soil structure, moisture management, or an eco-friendly bedding, this versatile coco coir brick offers a simple, sustainably sourced solution.
