Outsidepride Kentucky Bluegrass Seed — Midnight Blend 10 lb, Cold & Drought Tolerant, OptiGrowth Coated

Outsidepride Midnight Kentucky Bluegrass Seed (10 lb) is an OptiGrowth-coated, sun-loving lawn seed blend formulated for dark blue-green color, deep roots, and durable, high-traffic turf.

Designed for homeowners, groundskeepers, and turf professionals in northern and transition zones, this Midnight Kentucky Bluegrass combines dwarf, cold-hardy genetics with drought tolerance and a seed coating that improves handling and establishment. The OptiGrowth treatment adds starter nutrients plus Elko kelp and Aquatek moisture-retaining material to encourage uniform germination and stronger early root development when sown under recommended conditions.

How quickly will this seed establish a lawn?

Germination time for Kentucky bluegrass is generally slower than annual ryegrass, so expect visible green-up in 2–4 weeks under ideal temperatures. OptiGrowth coating and Aquatek speed early establishment by retaining moisture and providing starter nutrients to young seedlings.

• Typical green-up: 14–28 days with consistent moisture
• Full turf fill-in: 2–3 months depending on climate and care
• Best soil temp: sow when soil reaches about 55°F in spring
• Planting window: early spring or 6–8 weeks before first fall frost

What maintenance does Midnight Kentucky Bluegrass need for best results?

This variety favors regular irrigation during establishment, moderate mowing height, and fertilization tailored to your region’s recommendations. Once established it tolerates drought and traffic better than many bluegrasses, but periodic feeding and dethatching will preserve a dense, healthy lawn.

• Seeding rate for new lawns: 2–3 lbs per 1,000 sq ft
• Overseeding rate: 1–1.5 lbs per 1,000 sq ft
• Use a starter fertilizer at planting and water lightly but frequently until rooted
• Mow to a recommended height for Kentucky bluegrass and avoid scalping

Is this seed suitable for high-traffic or athletic areas?

Midnight Kentucky Bluegrass is bred for durable, dense turf that withstands heavier foot traffic better than many fine-leaf varieties. The cultivar’s deep-rooting habit and the nutrient-rich OptiGrowth coating help the lawn recover from wear and maintain color through seasonal stress.

• Good traffic tolerance for home play areas, parks, and some athletic fields
• Dense growth habit helps crowd out thin spots and reduce erosion
• OptiGrowth supplies Zinc, Phosphorus, and Nitrogen to support recovery
• Combine with proper irrigation and aeration for best longevity

Can I plant this seed in shady spots or hot climates?

Midnight Kentucky Bluegrass prefers full sun to partial shade and performs best in cooler northern or transition climates. While it has improved heat and drought tolerance, prolonged deep shade or extreme southern heat will reduce vigor compared to sunnier, cooler sites.

• Best suited to full sun and light shade conditions
• Recommended for northern and transition growing zones
• Shows improved heat and cold tolerance but not a shade specialist
• Use mixes with shade-tolerant species for heavily shaded lawns
