Pennington Bermudagrass Seed Repair Mix — Smart Patch 30 lb, Fast Germination & Washout-Resistant

Pennington Smart Patch Bermudagrass Mix is an all-in-one 30 lb lawn repair seed blend that fills bare spots quickly and resists washout on slopes with built-in tackifier, mulch, fertilizer and microbials.

If you have thin, brown or bare patches — from pet damage, disease or poor soil — this ready-to-use mix is formulated to remove the guesswork. The blend combines Bermudagrass seed with Chewings fescue components, a water-soluble tackifier that holds seed in place on hills and in rain, mulch that signals watering needs, starter fertilizer and microbials to support seed establishment. It’s designed for fast visible results and to conserve water once established.

How fast will I see grass after applying Smart Patch?

Under recommended conditions, you can expect initial sprouting in about seven days and substantial coverage within three weeks. Actual timing depends on temperature, soil contact, moisture and sunlight, but the mix’s starter fertilizer and mulch speed early growth.

• Visible germination often in 7 days under warm, moist conditions
• Significant coverage commonly by 22 days with consistent watering
• Mulch changes color when dry to help time your next watering
• Use 1 lb per 4 sq ft for concentrated repairs; 1 lb per 20 sq ft for light overseeding

Will it stay in place on slopes or during rain?

Yes — the mix includes a water-soluble tackifier that forms a protective blanket over seed and mulch so it resists washing away on slopes or in heavy rain events. This is particularly helpful on hills, walkways and areas with erratic irrigation.

• Tackifier adheres seed to soil to reduce displacement
• Mulch further protects seed surface and retains moisture
• Formulation especially useful for sloped or exposed patches
• Apply according to coverage directions for best adhesion

Can Smart Patch handle pet damage, poor soil, or lawn disease?

The product is designed to address common causes of bare spots without needing specialized soil tests. It contains microbials and organic matter to help counter soil issues and reduce disease risk, plus fertilizer to jump-start nutrient-deficient areas.

• Microbials and organic matter support soil health
• Starter fertilizer supplies nutrients for early root development
• Seed varieties selected for quick establishment and drought tolerance
• Recommended for dog spots, worn areas and disease-affected patches

How do I apply and what coverage should I expect?

Application is simple: clear debris from the bare area, spread the mix evenly, and keep the seed consistently moist until established. Choose the seeding rate based on how dense a repair you want—use more for concentrated patches and less for broader, lighter coverage.

• For concentrated patching: 1 lb per 4 sq ft
• For extended coverage or thin overseeding: 1 lb per 20 sq ft
• Keep seed and mulch moist; mulch color helps guide watering intervals
• Best planted in spring or early summer for fast results
