Audubon Park Cardinal Wild Bird Seed - 8 lb Sunflower & Shell-Free Safflower Blend, Low-Mess

Audubon Park Cardinal Wild Bird Seed, 8 lb, is a premium sunflower and shell-free safflower blend formulated to attract cardinals and other colorful songbirds while reducing feeder mess and deterring squirrels.

If you want a reliable way to bring more cardinals, grosbeaks, chickadees, and similar backyard favorites to your yard, this 8-pound Audubon Park mix is designed for that purpose. The recipe emphasizes black oil sunflower and safflower seeds—two ingredients bird species prefer—while omitting common fillers like corn, milo, and millet. That cleaner formula reduces leftover debris under feeders and keeps the feeding area neater season after season.

Why will this seed mix draw cardinals and other colorful birds?

This blend focuses on the foods cardinals naturally seek. Black oil sunflower offers high energy and an easy shell for many songbirds, and shell-free safflower adds a palatable option cardinals like without encouraging some unwanted species.

• High-rank ingredients: black oil sunflower and shell-free safflower.
• Formulated to highlight species that favor larger seeds and higher oil content.
• No filler grains, so desirable birds find the food quickly.

How does it reduce mess and limit squirrel visits?

The mix excludes corn, milo, and millet, which often fall beneath feeders and attract ground-foraging pests. Safflower is less appealing to many squirrels and some pest birds, helping to keep feeders for the songbirds you want.

• Cleaner feeding: fewer hulls and wasted grains under feeders.
• Safflower presence naturally discourages many squirrels.
• Less spilled filler means fewer visits by unwanted species.

Which feeder types work best with this 8 lb bag?

Audubon Park's cardinal blend is versatile across common feeder designs. Use it in tube, hopper, platform, tray, and smart feeders to suit the birds you want to host and the setup in your yard.

• Tube and hopper feeders keep seeds dry and accessible to small perching birds.
• Platform and tray feeders welcome ground-landing species like cardinals.
• Smart feeders that dispense sunflower and safflower maintain steady supply without clogging.

When should I use this seed throughout the year?

This blend provides year-round nutrition suitable across seasons. The oil-rich sunflower offers energy for cold months, while the accessible safflower supports breeding and migration seasons when birds need reliable food sources.

• Winter: high-energy sunflower helps birds maintain body heat.
• Spring/summer: accessible seeds support nesting and feeding young.
• Fall: reliable calories aid migration and pre-migration conditioning.
