Scotts Turf Builder Kentucky Bluegrass Seed Mix, 2.4 lb — Root-Building Nutrition for dense, durable turf

Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Kentucky Bluegrass Mix is a premium blend that establishes dense, green turf with Root-Building Nutrition for deeper, stronger roots.

This 2.4 lb bag contains an elite Kentucky bluegrass blend formulated to produce a durable, attractive lawn in full sun to light shade. The mix includes Scotts’ Root-Building Nutrition — a proprietary combination designed to support early root development so seedlings establish faster and grow into a thicker sward. Use this seed for new lawn installation or overseeding thin areas; follow timing, watering, and spreader guidance for best results.

How quickly will I see Kentucky bluegrass emerge and fill in bare spots?

Kentucky bluegrass typically germinates moderately slowly compared with annual ryegrass; expect visible shoots in one to three weeks under ideal soil temperatures and consistent moisture. Full coverage and a uniform lawn surface can take several months as the plants tiller and spread via rhizomes.

• Germination best when soil temperatures are 55–70°F and air 60–80°F.
• Keep soil surface consistently moist until seedlings reach about 2" tall.
• Initial shoots often appear within 7–21 days; full establishment may take multiple mow cycles.

What conditions and maintenance help this seed perform best?

This blend is designed for lawns receiving full sun to light shade and performs well with medium drought resistance and high durability. Proper site prep, correct seeding rate, and routine watering are key for strong establishment and long-term turf health.

• Plant in spring or fall when daily soil temps are consistently 55–70°F.
• Use a Scotts spreader for even application; follow label spreader settings.
• Water daily or as needed to keep the soil surface moist until seedlings are at least 2" tall.

How much area does one 2.4 lb bag cover and how should I use it?

Coverage varies by application: the 2.4 lb bag will seed up to 530 sq ft for a new lawn and can overseed about 1,600 sq ft when used to thicken an existing turf. Adjust rate when repairing high-traffic or severely thin zones for faster fill-in.

• New lawn: approx. 530 sq ft per 2.4 lb bag.
• Overseeding: approx. 1,600 sq ft per 2.4 lb bag.
• For spot repairs, increase seeding density and keep area moist until established.

What tools and timing improve success when planting this seed?

A dedicated spreader and the right seasonal window are the simplest ways to improve results. Planting during cooler, consistent soil-temperature periods and following label instructions for spreader settings and watering will help seedlings outcompete weeds and develop stronger roots.

• Recommended: use a Scotts broadcast or drop spreader for even distribution.
• Best planting windows: spring or fall with recommended temperature ranges.
• After seeding, water lightly and frequently until seedlings are established.
