Nelson Plant Food NutriStar 17-7-10 is a slow-release granular fertilizer formulated to promote steady growth and vibrant blooms in bougainvillea and other flowering vines.

This 4 lb bag of PREMIUM CRAFTED EST. 1983 NELSON PLANT FOOD NutriStar offers a balanced 17-7-10 N-P-K profile with multiple nitrogen sources plus sulfur and gypsum to support soil structure and bloom development. Designed for easy use on indoor and outdoor vines, the granules feed plants gradually so you can reduce frequent applications while encouraging healthy foliage and abundant flowers.

How often should I feed my bougainvillea and other vines?

Apply the granules every 14 days while plants are establishing or actively growing, and switch to monthly feedings once flowering begins. The slow-release formulation supplies nutrients over time, simplifying your schedule compared with frequent liquid feeds.

• Seed to bloom: feed biweekly until first blooms appear.
• Blooming phase: feed once a month for sustained flowering.
• Indoor vs outdoor: same schedule works for pots and ground plantings.

What makes the 17-7-10 formula good for flowering vines?

This blend emphasizes nitrogen for healthy foliage and a higher middle-to-low phosphorus and potassium balance that supports bloom formation and overall plant vigor. Multiple nitrogen sources and added sulfur and gypsum help maintain favorable soil chemistry around the roots.

• Multiple nitrogen sources for steady leaf and shoot growth.
• Balanced phosphorus and potassium to support flowering and resilience.
• Sulfur and gypsum to improve soil structure and root zone conditions.

Which vines and planting situations are best suited to this fertilizer?

Although formulated with bougainvillea in mind, NutriStar 17-7-10 is appropriate for a wide range of flowering vines—both tropical and temperate. Use it on potted specimens, hanging baskets, trellised vines, and ground-planted climbers to encourage consistent flowering and strong foliage.

• Recommended for bougainvillea, mandevilla, trumpet vines, wisteria, honeysuckles, and similar climbers.
• Works in containers, hanging pots, and in-ground plantings.
• Available sizes: 2 lb, 4 lb, 15 lb, and 25 lb to match small to large gardens.

How do I apply granular fertilizer safely and effectively?

Scatter granules evenly around the root zone, keeping them a few inches away from direct stem contact, then water thoroughly to activate the slow-release nutrients. For potted plants, apply on top of the potting medium and water in; for garden beds, lightly work granules into the soil surface without deep disturbance.

• Keep granules a short distance from main stems to avoid direct contact.
• Water after application to release nutrients into the root zone.
• Adjust quantity by pot size or plant maturity—larger plants need proportionally more feed.
