La Crosse Technology Analog 13.5-inch Dial Thermometer with Hidden Key Compartment — Weather-Resistant, Large Easy-Read Face

The La Crosse T83714 is a 13.5-inch weather-resistant analog dial thermometer with a large, easy-to-read face and a discreet key-hider for convenient outdoor mounting.

This classic wall thermometer combines simple, reliable temperature monitoring with a practical hidden key compartment so you can hang it on an exterior wall and keep a spare house key tucked away. The oversized dial and bright blue pointer let you read temperatures from a distance, while the shatter-resistant lens and plastic frame resist everyday outdoor wear. For best accuracy, place the unit in a shaded, sheltered spot out of direct sun and heavy precipitation.

How accurate and wide-ranging is the temperature reading?

The La Crosse analog dial displays temperatures in Fahrenheit across a broad span, from -60°F up to 120°F, covering most outdoor climates. Because this is a passive, non-electronic thermometer, it gives continuous, immediate readings without batteries.

• Range: -60°F to 120°F for extreme conditions
• Analog needle provides instant visual temperature
• Passive sensing avoids power or connectivity needs
• Best accuracy when shaded and sheltered from precipitation

What makes this thermometer durable enough for outdoor use?

The T83714 uses a sturdy plastic frame and a shatter-resistant lens to withstand impacts and changing weather. Its construction is designed for outdoor placement, but long-term performance improves when the thermometer is mounted under an overhang or on a north-facing wall.

• Plastic housing resists cracking and corrosion
• Shatter-resistant lens protects the dial and pointer
• Weather-resistant build tolerates rain and wind
• Recommended sheltered mounting extends lifespan

How easy is it to install and use the hidden key compartment?

Installation is straightforward: a built-in keyhole bracket lets you hang the unit on a screw or nail (not supplied). The concealed compartment behind the dial provides a discrete spot for a spare key, making it a two-in-one outdoor accessory for temperature checks and emergency access.

• Keyhole bracket for quick wall hanging on screw or nail
• Hidden compartment conceals a spare key from view
• Mount near an entryway for convenient access
• No special tools or wiring required for setup

How visible is the dial from a distance and where should I place it?

The extra-large 13.5-inch dial paired with a bright blue pointer was designed for legibility from across a yard or patio. For dependable readings and to prevent sun-induced error, place the thermometer on a shaded wall or beneath eaves, ideally facing north in the northern hemisphere.

• 13.5-inch dial improves visibility at a distance
• Bright pointer contrasts with the face for easy reading
• Place on shaded, north-facing exterior walls when possible
• Keep out of direct sunlight and heavy precipitation

Who this is for: The La Crosse T83714 suits homeowners, gardeners, and outdoor hobbyists who want a low-maintenance, immediately readable outdoor thermometer with the added convenience of a hidden spare-key option. It’s ideal for anyone who prefers analog simplicity—no batteries, no apps—while still needing a durable instrument that holds up to typical outdoor conditions when placed under shelter.
