Kikkerland Solar Rainbow Maker Window Prism — Clear Crystal Suncatcher, Solar-Powered Rotating Rainbow

The Kikkerland Solar Powered Rainbow Maker is a window-mounted prism that uses sunlight to rotate and cast shifting rainbow patterns across your room without batteries.

Bring a simple everyday delight into your home with this solar suncatcher designed by David Dear. Mounted with a suction cup on a sunny window, the crystal rotates when lit and refracts sunlight into moving spectrums that dance across walls, floors, and furniture. It’s a low-effort, eye-catching way to add color and motion to living rooms, nurseries, offices, or gift packages.

How does the Rainbow Maker create moving rainbows?

The device converts sunlight into motion through a small solar panel that powers an internal motor, turning the faceted crystal like a miniature disco ball. As the prism spins, each facet bends and separates light into vivid bands, producing ever-changing rainbow patches that shift with the sun’s angle. No wiring or replacement batteries are required, making operation simple and eco-friendly.

• Solar cell powers a quiet rotation motor
• Multi-faceted crystal refracts light into color bands
• Suction-cup mounting places the prism in direct sun
• Works best in direct or very bright indirect sunlight

Where should I place it for the best effect?

Position the Rainbow Maker on a window that receives strong morning or afternoon sun for a pronounced display. South- and west-facing windows tend to produce the longest, brightest dances of light; places with obstructions or tinted glass may soften the effect. You can relocate it easily to experiment with angles and surfaces that catch the beams.

• Mount on clean glass using the included suction cup
• Try south- or west-facing windows for peak brightness
• Test different heights to project onto walls or floors
• Move between rooms to change the ambiance quickly

What maintenance or troubleshooting is needed?

Maintenance is minimal: keep the solar panel and crystal free of dust and fingerprints so light can reach the cell and refract cleanly. If rotation stops, check for blocked gears or debris around the motor and ensure the suction cup still holds firmly against the glass. Wiping with a soft, dry cloth usually restores full performance.

• Clean solar panel and prism with a soft cloth
• Ensure strong light source and secure suction mount
• Gently dislodge any visible dust or grit near gears
• Relocate to brighter window if output weakens
