Jonathan Green Black Beauty Sunny Grass Seed — 1 lb for Hot Sunny Spots, Fast Germination

If you need a small-bag solution for sun-exposed yards, slopes, or areas that dry quickly, this specially formulated mix combines perennial ryegrass, Kentucky bluegrass, and tall fescue to resist heat and conserve moisture. It’s a cool-season turf mix engineered to perform best in full sun to light shade and to establish quickly when seeded in the recommended planting windows.

What types of grass are in this mix and why do they matter?

The blend pairs perennial rye, Kentucky bluegrass, and tall fescue so each species contributes strengths: quick establishment, color and density, and deeper roots for drought survival. Together they create a resilient turf that tolerates high temperatures better than many standard cool-season mixes.

• Perennial rye — speeds germination and initial cover.
• Kentucky bluegrass — adds dark-green color and a dense sod-like look.
• Tall fescue — improves drought resilience and root depth.

How should I use this 1 lb bag for best results?

Apply the seed during optimal windows: mid-August to mid-October or mid-March through mid-May. Preparation and watering are key: loosen topsoil, remove debris, spread seed evenly, lightly rake, and keep soil consistently moist until seedlings are established.

• New lawns: covers up to 425 sq ft from 1 lb.
• Overseeding: treats up to 850 sq ft with the same bag.
• Germination typically occurs within 7–14 days under good conditions.

Will this seed tolerate heat, drought, and southern exposures?

Yes — Black Beauty Sunny is formulated for sun-dominant sites and slopes that shed water. The grass develops a natural waxy leaf coating that slows evaporation and shields leaf tissue, helping turf stay greener through dry, hot periods without constant watering.

• Built-in drought resistance via a waxy leaf surface.
• Performs well on slopes prone to runoff and south-facing yards.
• Best for full sun to light shade situations.

How will my lawn look and how soon will it fill in?

The combination of species produces a thick, dark-green lawn when given proper care. Expect visible green-up within one to two weeks; full density depends on soil, moisture, and mowing practices but typically develops over the first growing season.

• Dark-green turf color from the Kentucky bluegrass component.
• Rapid initial cover from perennial ryegrass.
• Long-term durability contributed by tall fescue roots.

Who is this for: homeowners and landscapers with small areas of sun-exposed lawn, patching needs, or slopes that dry quickly. Choose this 1 lb bag if you want a compact, easy-to-handle option that establishes fast, tolerates heat and drought better than ordinary cool-season mixes, and produces an attractive dark-green turf with routine lawn care.
