How fast will Kentucky 31 K31 establish and when should I plant it?

K31 is a cool-season grass that germinates reliably in mild soil temperatures and develops most vigorously in fall and spring. Expect visible shoots in 7–21 days under ideal conditions, with fuller turf or forage cover forming across the first season and stronger density by the second season.

• Best planting windows: early fall or early spring for most climates.
• Soil temp target: generally 50–65°F for optimal germination.
• Seeding rate: follow label guidance for 5 lb coverage—suitable for smaller pastures, plots, or repair patches.
• First-season care: light watering to keep seedbed moist, avoid heavy traffic until established.

What stresses and conditions does this tall fescue tolerate?

Kentucky 31 is prized for its toughness: it tolerates heat, drought, heavy foot or vehicle traffic, and partial shade better than many cool-season grasses. While not immune to extreme drought, its deep root system helps sustain it through dry periods and recover quickly after stress.

• Drought resistance: deep rooting reduces irrigation needs.
• Traffic tolerance: holds up on trails, game plots, and working pastures.
• Shade performance: outperforms many grasses under filtered light.
• Wear recovery: regrows foliage after grazing or trampling.

How does Hit List Seed KY31 perform for forage, hunting, and wildlife attraction?

K31 provides reliable forage quality and dense cover attractive to deer, elk, and other wildlife, making it a versatile choice for food plots, bedding areas, and pasture mixes. Its persistence and quick fall regrowth create dependable browse and concealment when animals are most active.

• Forage value: palatable and nutritious during cool seasons.
• Wildlife use: provides browse and cover that attract big game.
• Food plot tips: pair with legumes or brassicas for seasonal diversity.
• Longevity: maintains stand for multiple seasons with basic management.

What makes this bag "pure" KY31 and how should I manage it long-term?

Hit List Seed labels and tests this product to ensure it contains only Kentucky 31 tall fescue seed without filler varieties. That purity means predictable performance and growth characteristics you can plan around. For long-term success, mow or graze appropriately, overseed thin spots, and apply soil tests to guide fertilization.

• Purity assurance: single-variety seed—no cheap fillers.
• Maintenance: periodic fertilization based on soil test results.
• Overseeding: repair and thicken stands in fall or spring as needed.
• Pest and weed control: manage competing weeds early for best establishment.
