豊稔光山作 Japanese weeding sickle — 4.7-inch thick composite-steel blade, right-handed nejiri kama, compact

HOUNEN 豊稔光山作 HOUNEN Japanese weeding sickle is a right-handed nejiri kama with a 4.7-inch thick composite steel blade made for controlled, close-to-soil weeding and light edging.

This compact Japanese hand hoe combines a twisted, heavy-profile blade with a sharpened composite-steel edge to shave young weeds and trim light turf without uprooting surrounding plants. Designed for right-handed use and manufactured in Japan, the tool brings the nejiri kama shape to flower beds, borders, and tight plantings where levered, long-handled tools are impractical. Its stout blade profile resists bending during scraping and gives a confident cutting angle for precision maintenance and repeat touch-ups.

How does the twisted thick profile help in close planting?

The thick, twisted section adds rigidity so the blade scrapes and slices at soil level without flexing into roots or nearby stems. That form keeps the cutting edge aligned during oblique strokes, improving accuracy in narrow spaces.

• Rigid blade resists bending for consistent contact with soil and vegetation.
• Twist profile positions the edge for low-angle shaves beside plants.
• Compact head fits between tightly spaced stems and border plantings.

What tasks can this hand hoe handle around the garden?

This nejiri kama is tuned for routine maintenance tasks: shaving seedlings, clearing annual weeds, light grass trimming, and scraping soil from the surface without deep digging. It excels where accuracy matters more than leverage.

• Shave young weeds at soil level to prevent regrowth without disturbing roots.
• Trim edging and thin turf lines where a full-size mower or long hoe can't reach.
• Scrape debris from beds and tidy pathways near delicate plantings.

How should I care for the composite steel blade to keep it performing?

Composite steel requires basic cleaning and drying after use to minimize moisture exposure and soil buildup. Wipe the blade clean, dry it, and store in a dry place; occasional light sharpening maintains a keen edge for precise cuts.

• Remove soil and organic residue after each use with a cloth or brush.
• Dry the blade and apply a light oil film to prevent surface rust.
• Hone or strop the edge lightly when you feel reduced slicing performance.

Why choose a Japanese-made nejiri kama for garden touch-ups?

Japanese garden sickles like this model emphasize compact control, simplicity, and a blade geometry tailored for close, repeated passes. The HOUNEN 豊稔光山作 version keeps those design principles while using composite steel for durable contact with soil and vegetation.

• Traditional nejiri kama geometry for precise, low-angle work.
• Made-in-Japan quality and attention to blade form and fit.
• Compact size well-suited to beds, borders, and container gardens.

Who is this for? Gardeners who value precision and compact tools—urban gardeners, perennial bed keepers, landscapers performing routine touch-ups, and anyone who needs a dependable hand hoe for tight spaces—will find the HOUNEN 豊稔光山作 4.7-inch composite steel weeding sickle a practical addition. It’s especially useful for right-handed users who perform frequent surface-level weeding and edging where preserving nearby plants and roots matters. Pair it with regular cleaning and light maintenance to keep the blade sharp and ready for seasons of accurate, controlled garden work.
