仁作 nisaku Hori-Hori digging & weeding knife — 7.25" hardened DSR-1K6 stainless, wood handle

The Nisaku NJP651 Hori-Hori is a hardened HRC58 Japanese stainless steel digging and weeding knife with dual edges, inch markers, a wooden handle, and a premium leather sheath.

Built on a legacy of Japanese toolmaking that dates back to Tomita in 1960, this Special Edition Nisaku hori-hori blends a compact, concave blade with a durable DSR-1K6 stainless steel alloy. The 7.25-inch blade balances a beveled slicing edge and a serrated edge for cutting roots, dividing plants, or precise planting. A smooth wooden handle and fitted leather sheath keep the tool comfortable and ready for storage or field use.

How does this hori-hori handle digging and planting tasks?

The concave blade profile makes scooping soil and measuring planting depth straightforward, while the hardened steel resists chips during repeated ground work. Inch markers etched into the blade give fast, reliable depth control when transplanting bulbs or seedlings.

• 7.25" concave blade for scooping and trenching
• Inch markers for accurate planting and seeding depth
• Hardened DSR-1K6 stainless steel reduces wear and sharpening frequency

Can I use it for cutting roots, dividing plants, or light pruning?

Yes—the dual-edge design covers slicing and sawing: one side is ground to a fine bevel for clean cuts, the other serrated for fibrous roots and small branches. The blade’s hardness gives confident edge retention so you spend less time resharpening between tasks.

• Beveled edge for precise slicing of stems and roots
• Serrated edge for tougher, stringy material and small branches
• HRC58 hardness for longer-lasting sharpness and durability

Is the handle comfortable for extended outdoor use and is it portable?

The handle is crafted from seasoned wood shaped for a secure grip that reduces hand fatigue during repetitive digging or cutting. A tailored premium leather sheath protects the blade in transit and offers safe, convenient carry when moving around the garden or campsite.

• Ergonomic wooden handle for control and comfort
• Leather sheath for safe storage and easy transport
• Compact length fits garden belts or packs for fieldwork

What maintenance does this Special Edition blade require?

DSR-1K6 stainless steel is corrosion-resistant and scratch-tolerant, so routine care is minimal: wipe clean after use, dry fully, and oil occasionally to preserve appearance. When needed, the hardened edge takes standard sharpening methods to restore a keen cutting surface.

• Wipe and dry blade after soil exposure to prevent residue buildup
• Occasional light oiling to protect finishes and wooden handle
• Sharpen with a fine stone or guided sharpener as required

Who is this for: The Nisaku NJP651 suits home gardeners, landscapers, foragers, and outdoor enthusiasts who want a multi-purpose hand tool that combines precision planting, reliable digging, and cutting capability. If you need a compact tool that performs in beds, containers, and on trails—while reflecting traditional Japanese craftsmanship—this Special Edition hori-hori is designed to meet those demands.
